Game that can’t be won, only played

This is a line from a scene in “The Legend of Bagger Vance” (a golf movie starring Matt Damon & Will Smith).  It is really a movie about life using golf as the metaphor to describe our challenges.  I have this scene bookmarked on YouTube and watch it once a week just to experience the feeling it stirs inside me (you can watch it at the end of this post).

How often do we lose the focus of what we do and think it is a win or lose proposition?  Is it?  Can we win?  Cervantes said, “The journey is the inn.” which is another way of saying what we already know.  Do we spend our time adding value to our lives or are we too locked in to getting that next job or next bonus or even just finding the next job?  Your station in life does not matter because this is a challenge for anyone and everyone.  It is not about what you are doing each day but more about how you are doing it.

After you watch the clip, think about “your swing”.  The one that only you were given when you came into this world.  Do you use it and hold nothing back?  What can you do today to connect to who you were meant to be?  It does not have to be something BIG…in fact it will probably be something others might not notice.  Life is about the little things we do each day and how we impact the lives of others.  As Robert Louis Stevenson said, “We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world & the best we can find in our travels is an honest friend.”

Hope you enjoy  the clip as much as I do.
